Ballasting system for caisson transport
Something extraordinary is taking place just 45Km out of the coast of Oostende Belgium. It is right here that the world’s first artificial energy island is being built by Belgium consortium TM Edison. The so called Princes Elisabeth Island will be constructed out of large concrete caissons of roughly 60 x 30 meter and no less than 22 meters high. The caissons are constructed in Vlissingen and once finished they will be floated out of the construction yard to be stored and awaiting float over to the final location. The island will act as a European energy hub connecting offshore wind parks and several countries to the onshore grid. Team Rental Pumps was awarded with several stages of the construction process where pumps were in demand. Here we are constructing a simplified ballasting system for the transport of the finished caissons from the construction yard to the storage location. We also delivered a de-ballasting system consisting out of 30 pieces electrical submersible pumps, but more about that later.
